A bit of good news from a very strange year…
Just before Christmas, I was incredibly humbled to find out that I was one of the winners of the Freelancer Awards 2020 (Covid Edition), hosted by YunoJuno.
The awards were created to recognise freelancers who had used their skills to help others during the pandemic. This year’s response was overwhelming: they received over 6,000 votes in just 48 hours, which is pretty mind-blowing!
I was nominated for Supportsmouth – a side project I launched during the first lockdown to help local Portsmouth businesses stay visible and connected. What started as a quick idea turned into a city-wide directory of independent shops, cafés and services still open during restrictions. It’s a project I’m incredibly proud of, and one that’s close to my heart.
I genuinely couldn’t believe it when I made the finalist list, let alone actually won. A huge thank you goes to my fiancé for nominating me (and helping keep the site updated), and to Nathan and Karl for their support right from day one.
And of course, to everyone who voted – thank you. After a year that challenged so many of us, it was incredibly uplifting to end it with some good news.
If you’re curious, you can read the full interview here – including a short video of my reaction when they told me I’d won!
