Background
The Seed are a four-piece band from Portsmouth, formed in 2023 and known for their genre-blurring mix of post-punk, psych and grunge. With a growing local fanbase and a pair of single releases under their belt, they were ready to start taking things more seriously. Howvever they had no consistent brand, no central web presence, and their social media efforts weren’t doing their music justice.
They approached me to help shape a cohesive digital identity and get them better equipped for gig bookings, social media coverage and fan engagement.

The challenge
Before we started working together, The Seed’s digital presence was fragmented and inconsistent. They needed:
- A strong visual identity and brand toolkit
- A central website for promoting music and gigs
- Better use of social media to engage followers and reach promoters
- A more strategic, joined-up approach to how and where they show up online

A brand rooted in their artwork
I created a custom logo and built a flexible brand identity inspired by the band’s own single artwork (designed by Tori Playford) to keep things personal and authentic. Using these visuals as a starting point, I created a consistent colour palette, typography, and layout templates that feel true to their sound and aesthetic.
I’ve also created Figma file with reusable templates gives us a quick, on-brand way to update gig announcements and event artwork across the bands social media platforms.

A new website – built for fans and promoters
The band now has a dedicated home online: the-seed.co.uk. Built with WordPress so it’s easy to update, the site includes:
- Embedded Spotify playlist for easy listening
- Social media links and contact emails (split for bookings and general enquiries)
- A press kit (coming soon) with logos, imagery and bios
- A custom events listing system that auto-moves past gigs into a separate archive
This makes it easy for venues and promoters to find and contact them, while also giving fans a place to check for the latest shows and releases.

More strategic, consistent social media
In June 2025 I took over day-to-day management of The Seed’s Instagram and Facebook accounts, developing a content strategy and a growing list of post ideas. I also go along to gigs to shoot and post live content, and regularly follow and interact with local venues, promoters and other bands to raise visibility and open doors.
We’re now using Stories more effectively, tagging bands and venues, resharing content and using links and captions to boost engagement. I also manage their ticketed events on Skiddle to help simplify the gig-booking process for fans.

Looking ahead: merch, momentum and more
With the foundations in place, we’re now planning to expand The Seed’s reach even further – including getting their first run of merch printed. We’re working on T-shirt designs that tie into their new brand identity, using artwork and colours fans already associate with the band. Not only will this give gig-goers something tangible to take home, it’s another way to raise awareness and grow loyalty.

The result
It’s still early days, but the impact has already been noticeable:
- Follower growth across both Instagram and Facebook
- Increased engagement and shares on recent posts
- Multiple new enquiries for support slots and showcase events
- A professional-looking web presence that’s easy to manage
And perhaps most importantly – the band now has the confidence and tools to present themselves in a way that matches the quality of their music.

What they said
- The SeedWe had the pleasure of working with Jo to help us develop our logo and to give our social media a thorough going over and make it useful.
She did a fantastic job helping us to get to the logo we’ve decided on (which is no mean feat!) and managed to understand what we were doing and translate that into a distinct look and feel.
On the social side, Jo has managed everything from content planning to posting and engagement. Their work helped us grow our audience and get in contact with other similar groups and ultimately helped to book more gigs.
She’s reliable, creative, easy to communicate with and can turn things around fast. I’d happily recommend Starboard for any future projects or roles in branding or social media.
