The challenge
ASDMA (the Architectural and Specialist Door Manufacturers Association) approached me with a website that was outdated in both its design and technical setup. The existing theme was no longer supported and the visual editor setup was clunky and limiting. In addition, a PageSpeed Insights audit flagged accessibility issues – including poor colour contrast and missing content – along with performance problems that were dragging the site down.

The work
To bring ASDMA’s website into the modern era, I proposed a fully bespoke redesign and rebuild — no off-the-shelf templates, no bloated code. The process began in Figma, where I created wireframes and interactive prototypes to define a clear information hierarchy and ensure a smooth user journey. Accessibility was a priority from the outset, with colour palettes, typography, and layouts designed to meet WCAG guidelines.

Custom WordPress theme
The new site was built as a custom WordPress theme using clean, semantic code – meaning faster load times, improved SEO, and future-proof compatibility with newer versions of PHP and WordPress. By ditching legacy themes and unnecessary plugins, I created a streamlined, secure setup that’s easier to maintain and update.
I also implemented a flexible content structure using ACF, giving ASDMA full control over their content without needing to rely on clunky page builders. And to ensure smooth continuity for users, I put in place 301 redirects for any changed URLs – so nothing got lost in the transition.

The result
ASDMA now has a fast, modern website that’s accessible, easy to update, and ready to scale. It reflects the professionalism of the organisation and supports its members with a clean structure and clear navigation. Technically robust and beautifully designed, the site is set up to evolve with the association’s needs – without being held back by outdated tools or unsupported software.
