A freelance studio that creates beautiful, accessible websites

Starboard is a small team of freelancers, headed up by UX Designer & Developer Jo Loveridge

I’m Jo Loveridge — a UX designer and Front-end developer with a passion for crafting websites that not only look great, but work beautifully for everyone.

Since founding my studio in 2008, I’ve collaborated with marketing teams, agencies and businesses to deliver clean, accessible, user-first websites built on solid code.

My core skillset is front-end development — I’m an expert in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with nearly 20 years of experience working with WordPress. I also design UX and UI in Figma, blending creative design with technical know-how to create websites that are usable and scalable. You can also visit my personal website.

My extended team

Whilst I’m not an agency (and never have been) I do know the value of working with experts in their field. We can’t all be good at everything, right? So, what does that mean when we work together?

The right people work on your project

I believe there’s no ‘one size fits all’ team when it comes to your project. For example, some designers are better suited to intricate UI layouts, and others to illustrations and branding.

When a brief comes in, I’ll hand-pick the right collaborators to meet the exact needs of your project.

Multiple freelancers for the price of one

Because I run a freelance studio – not an agency – I don’t have the overheads that come with a large team. That means you only ever pay freelance prices.

Everyone quotes for their part of the work, and I coordinate it all – keeping things clear, efficient, and cost-effective.

Your point of contact is always me

Even if other freelancers are involved, I’ll always be your main point of contact.

That means no confusing handovers or speaking to five different people. I’m across every aspect of the project – from code and content to creative direction – and I keep you updated every step of the way.

What matters most to me

A successful web project isn’t just about good design and code, it’s about the people you work with. I like to work by the following freelance philosophy:

Honesty & clarity

I’ll always keep you up to date with the project, and will never promise something I cannot deliver. I also try to keep things straightforward, avoiding tech jargon if you’d prefer!

Good communication

I’ve always taken pride in fast communication. While I can’t be available 24/7, I aim to reply quickly so you’re never left waiting and wondering. My clients often praise my responsiveness.

Attention to detail

From developing pixel perfect websites from your designs, to providing well written documentation, I care about the small things that make a big difference.

Collaboration

I believe the best results come from working with people, not just for them. I’ll guide you with expert insight, but your voice and vision always stay at the heart of the project.
